Link Relevance

Posted on June 19, 2024 by Barrett Florin

We are constantly being told by SEO experts and the various search engines that the significance of a web link depends upon its pr and relevance to your own internet sites. Consequently when creating a linking strategy we have to only get worried with relevant links. That's other internet sites that have some link with our own. For instance I run an internet site specialized in providing a number of cleaning services to commercial clients through the entire UK, so another site will be a cleaning machine supplier or perhaps a cleaning chemicals supplier. Not other cleaning companies for the most obvious reason they're our direct competitors.

Now this sounds simple and straightforward and when we did this we'd find yourself linking to about twenty sites. This number isn't at all sufficient for all of us to contend with our competitors who've many hundreds and perhaps a large number of links recognised by the various search engines.

How does Google determine relevance? I will suggest that it's a totally random process. EASILY look within my own backlinks which Google are registering then most are relevant with regards to this is above, but most are not. None of our suppliers who provide us with a one way link and incidentally have high page ranks form section of this list yet they're highly relevant? It could be these form section of Google's count however they decide for one reason or another never to divulge these. It remains a mystery.

How does a mathematical formula workout relevance? EASILY one way link to my customers that are an extremely divers group if you ask me they're relevant but apparently never to Google. We've many backlinks from construction and building companies because we perform builders cleans for them. Yet they are seemingly not deemed to be relevant but a home loan company is? Builders and construction firms are mentioned many times on the internet site therefore another connection will be able to be produced.

If I consider the backlinks of my major competitors then your situation becomes a lot more confusing. Hardly any would appear at first glance to be of any relevance at all but who am I to guage? I do not need inside understanding of the workings of the companies and their possible connections.

To me the complete process seems completely arbitrary and I am going to continue developing links to sites that I consider relevant. If Google taken notice of its advice in mere developing links to relevant sites then presumably it could only connect to other se's?

It can be an easy statement to create for Google and SEO experts, 'only develop links to relevant sites' however the reality is they have no chance of knowing what's truly relevant and what's not. Consequently my advice would be to continue developing your links to websites that you take into account of some relevance either for you or surfers who run into your website and continue being astonished at what Google considers to be relevant!.
